Noida: An 8-year-girl from Ghaziabad, who was hospitalised in the city with severe anaemia and pneumonia, and was also diagnosed with Covid-19, died on Thursday, doctors and officials said
Though the cause of mortality is yet to be concluded, officials said on Friday that the girl’s death will be recorded under Covid-19 fatalities in Ghaziabad. This will be the first fatality officially linked to the viral illness in the NCR district since February, when an 88-year-old man died in Nehru Nagar.

“While the girl was undergoing treatment in Gautam Budh Nagar, the death will however be reported in Ghaziabad as she was a resident of Khoda colony in Ghaziabad and was admitted at the Post Graduate Institute of Child Health (PGICH-Noida), said Dr Manoj Kushwaha, GB Nagar district surveillance officer.
PGICH doctors said the girl was severely anaemic and was suffering from pneumonia when she was admitted on Wednesday night.
The development comes at a time several NCR cities, including Delhi and Noida, are reporting a spurt in daily cases. On June 1, Ghaziabad reported 6 new cases of Covid-19. On Friday, 75 more people were diagnosed with the infection, taking the district’s total to 794 this month. Active cases stand at 368.In GB Nagar, more than 100 cases are being diagnosed daily since June 21. The district added 134 new cases, with 740 active infections as of Friday.
