AHMEDABAD: A 38-year-old woman from South Bopal on Thursday filed a complaint of rape against her friend, alleging that he raped her using the promise of marriage.
The woman said the accused Chetan Makwana, 40, a resident of New Ranip, promised her that he would divorce his wife and told her to leave her husband.
On his instructions, the woman filed for divorce in a local court and legally separated from her husband on June 10.
Makwana later fled to his native place in Bhavnagar and refused to marry her.
Bopal police officers said that the woman, who has an 11-year-old child, married a businessman from Bopal in 2007.
In 2020, the woman, a marketing manager with a leading beauty product company, met Makwana for a bank loan. Makwana was working for a private sector bank.
After their meeting, they began chatting and ultimately got into a relationship.
The woman in her FIR said she and Makwana had gone out on June 3 and when he came home to drop her off, he allegedly raped her. She said Makwana had cheated her by luring her with the promise of marriage and making her divorce her husband.
Bopal police filed a complaint of rape against Makwana, who is on the run, and began an investigation.
