NCC naval wing established at Naval Children School in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: For the first time, Naval Wing of NCC (National Cadet Corps) was established at the Naval Children School (NCS) in Coimbatore city on Saturday. It will function under the 2(TN) NCC Naval Unit Madurai.
The unit's Raising Ceremony was held on the premises of Navy Children School. A total of 25 junior division (boys) and junior wing (girls) cadets have been enrolled for the first batch.It has 13 boys and 12 girl cadets. For the Raising Day function, a guard of honour was given to the Chief Guest – Commodore Ashok Rai, the Commanding Officer & Station Commander of INS Agrani, Coimbatore.
In keeping with the true spirit of jointmanship, air commodore Rajnish Verma, commandant, Air Force Administrative College (AFAC), Coimbatore, Colonel Naidu, Group Commander NCC Coimbatore, Lieutenant Commander Belliappa AP, Officer Commanding 2 (TN) NCC Naval Unit Madurai and the heads of the Army and Air Force units located at Coimbatore also among the dignitaries who attended the function.
The function included inspection of the platoons, marchpast by the platoons followed by an oath taking ceremony. One troop each from Army Wing and Air force wing participated in the function. Apart from the Principal NCS, teachers, parents and students, the Group Commander, NCC Headquarters Coimbatore and OC 2(TN) Bn Naval NCC unit Madurai were also present for the ceremony.
The chief guest administered the oath to the cadets. In his address to the gathering, the chief guest exhorted the other students present there to enroll in the various wings of the NCC units, as NCC facilitates building of character. For any country to become great, a well disciplined and healthy manpower plays a very important role as apart from a strong economy and military might, it's the national character that catapults a nation to greater heights. On completion of the Raising ceremony, the audience interacted with the officials and NCC cadets over high tea.
