Kanpur: Woman SI and two others arrested in honey trap case

The crime branch arrested a woman sub-inspector posted in the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), and two others, including a home guard on charges of involvement in a honey trap case, on Friday night.

KANPUR: The crime branch arrested a woman sub-inspector posted in the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), and two others, including a home guard on charges of involvement in a honey trap case, on Friday night.
The accused had tried to extort money from Jalaun-based two businessmen after threatening them of sending them to jail after being caught indulging in prostitution.
The police have also arrested both the businessmen and booked them under charges of Immoral Traffic (prevention) Act.
It was alleged that the woman sub-inspector, along with a home guard posted in Kotwali police station, raided a house in the Panki area on the information of a prostitution racket and caught two businessmen of Jalaun district from the spot and took them hostage.
According to the police sources, the accused sub-inspector held both the businessmen hostage in her car for about three hours and roamed around the city and demanded Rs 15 lakh in lieu of their release.
Somehow, both the businessmen got themselves freed from the clutches of the sub-inspector and met the Commissioner of Police, Vijay Singh Meena and apprised him about the whole incident.
Commissioner of Police constituted a team of crime branch sleuths and arrested the woman sub-inspector, the home guard and three others in this regard.
Two FIRs are being registered under relevant sections of IPC and Immoral Traffic (prevention) Act at the Panki police station in this connection.

The accused woman sub-inspector, Bhuvaneshwari Devi, was posted at the office of ADCP Rahul Mithas.
On late Friday night, she recieved information about a sex racket operational in a house in the Panki area of the city. Later, on the tip-off of an informer-Rahul, she raided the spot with a home guard Sanjeev Vishwakarma without informing the local police station. Two businessmen were taken into custody by the SI and home guard in the raid. Keeping the businessmen hostage in her four-wheeler, she demanded a bribe of Rs 15 lakh to release them.
The two businessmen somehow got themselves freed and met CP and apprised him about the incident.
The police officers, however, during preliminary investigation found that it was a case of honey-trap .
“As it was a case of honey-trap, the police in a well-planned operation arrested the sub-inspector and homeguard while taking a bribe red-handed in a restaurant at the Chetna Chauraha area. FIRs are being registered against the woman sub-inspector and home guard under relevant IPC sections, including extortion and kidnapping and against three persons, including two businessmen- Upendra and Amit under Immoral traffic (prevention) Act,” informed joint commissioner of police, Anand Prakash Tiwari.
The police said during the preliminary investigation, it was found that a sex racket operational in a house built in the Panki area, was part of honey-trap, where women engaged in prostitution were provided to the traders who came from outside and who were later blackmailed with the help of lady SI and homeguard, besides the informer. “Now the police teams have launched searches to make the arrest of three women, including the king-pin of the prostitution racket, besides the informer, who are on run,” police added.
