Police crack Margao murder case in hours, Jharkhand native held
Margao: Hours after an unidentified nude body, with its innards popping out, was found in a pick-up truck parked near a restaurant at Khareband in Margao on Saturday morning, South Goa police arrested 26-year-old Prashant Barna, a native of Jharkhand, on charges of killing the man. The victim was later identified as Amit Kirketti in the age group of 35-40 years.
He was also from Jharhand. The accused and the deceased worked as casual labourers.
South Goa SP Abhishek Dhania told reporters that the murder was a fallout of a drunken brawl. However, police sources haven’t ruled out the possibility of a sinister motive behind the crime and said that the accused was being interrogated thoroughly. Barna has been arrested under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
Dhania said that examination of CCTV footage obtained from the crime site helped police in identifying the accused and the deceased.
Police sources said that in one footage, the deceased was seen hurriedly entering the pick-up in a nude state, which helped cops establish his identity, leading to the arrest of his assailant.
