PATNA: A Patna-Guwahati SpiceJet flight aborted take off due to a technical glitch at Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport here on Saturday. The flight, SG-3724, was scheduled to depart at 3.35pm. It, however, remained grounded at the parking bay of the airport till the time of going to press.
According to sources, an automatic warning light was found switched on near one of the doors at the rear end of the aircraft at the time of take off.
Consequently, the Bombardier Q400 aircraft, which had around 70 passengers, returned to the parking bay of the airport after cancelling take off.
"During take off roll, fuselage door warning light illuminated. Subsequently, the take off was rejected and the aircraft returned to the bay," a SpiceJet spokesperson said.
Fuselage door was probably not closed properly: Expert
Explaining the possible cause for illumination of fuselage door warning light, Patna native and Texas-based aviation expert, Mirza Faizan, told TOI, "The fuselage door (where passengers sit) was either not properly closed or the warning system malfunctioned. Take off has to be aborted in such cases."
The incident occurred within a week of another SpiceJet flight making an emergency landing at Patna airport after one of its engines caught fire due to a suspected bird hit during take off. According to sources, Director General of Civil Aviation has initiated probe into both the incidents.
