KOLKATA: Suspended
BJP leader Nupur Sharma, whose remarks on Prophet Muhammad led Kolkata Police to register multiple cases against her, has requested that she be allowed to attend the police questioning through video conference and sought four weeks’ time in a case filed at the Amherst Street police station related to her remarks hurting religious feelings and promoting enmity.
Sharma was asked to appear in person for questioning on Saturday in a summons served to her. Two days ago, she had sought additional time in a case filed at Narkeldanga PS.
“She (Sharma) informed us that she was facing threats from various quarters and thus would not take the risk of travelling to Kolkata at this moment,” said a police officer.
Sources said cops had not yet replied to the request and a decision on the request for additional time would be taken after discussion with senior officials and taking legal implications in mind.
