NCC Naval Wing comes up at Navy Children School

Naval Wing of the National Cadet Corps was established at the Navy Children School (NCS) in the city on Saturday. It will function under the 2 (TN) NCC Naval Unit Madurai.The unit’s raising ceremony was held at the school.

Coimbatore: Naval Wing of the National Cadet Corps was established at the Navy Children School (NCS) in the city on Saturday. It will function under the 2 (TN) NCC Naval Unit Madurai.
The unit’s raising ceremony was held at the school. Twenty-five junior division cadets, 13 boys and 12 girls were enrolled in the first batch.
A guard of honour was presented to the chief guest, Commodore Ashok Rai, commanding officer and station commander of INS Agrani.

In keeping with the true spirit of jointmanship, Air commodore Rajnish Verma, commandant, Air Force Administrative College (AFAC), Coimbatore, Colonel Naidu, group commander, NCC Coimbatore, Lieutenant commander Belliappa A P, officer commanding 2 (TN) NCC Naval Unit Madurai and the heads of the Army and Air Force units in Coimbatore attended the function.
The function included inspection of the platoons, march-past by platoons, followed by an oath-taking ceremony. One troop each from Army wing and Air Force wing participated in the function.
Apart from the principal, teachers, parents and students, the group commander, NCC Headquarters Coimbatore and OC 2(TN) Bn Naval NCC unit Madurai were also present.
The chief guest administered the oath to the cadets. In his address to the gathering, the chief guest exhorted students to enrol in NCC, which facilitates building of character. For any country to become great, well-disciplined and healthy manpower plays a very important role as part of a strong economy and military might.
“It’s the national character that catapults a nation to greater heights,” he said.
On completion of the raising ceremony, the audience interacted with the officials and NCC cadets over high tea.
