Lucknow: Civic bodies told to double their income
LUCKNOW: In view of the directives issued by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the urban development department has started work to make the local bodies self-reliant. Issuing an order for heads of the local bodies across the state, principal secretary of the urban development department, Amrit Abhijat, on Friday asked the officers to double up the income of the civic bodies in the next nine months.

Issuing a deadline of March 31, 2023, heads of the civic bodies have been asked to review the revenue being collected by the department on a daily basis.
While going through the books, it was found that the local bodies in western UP were healthier and their financial condition was better. Ghaziabad and Moradabad, for instance, were able to generate higher revenues. The condition of Lucknow and Aligarh was found worrisome as the two bodies were unable to meet their expenses. “Condition of several municipal and town councils in western UP was found better in comparison to the ones in eastern UP during the review,” said a senior officer.
