LUCKNOW: A police constable was arrested on Saturday allegedly for killing his wife on the basis of his four-year-old son’s statement and post mortem examination report.
The accused, Rinku Gautam, posted at Dubagga police station, on Friday morning called the police and told them that his wife, Brijesh Kumari, died by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her room.

However, later Kumari’s father Latori Ram lodged an FIR claiming that when he could not fulfil the demand of dowry, Gautam tortured his daughter and killed her. Kumari and Gautam got married seven years ago and had a four-year-old son. The cops, who visited the spot found the body hanging from the ceiling fan, and sent it for post mortem.
“However, in his statement to the police, Gautam’s son said that ‘papa pushed mummy on the sofa, slapped her and held her neck, pressing it hard. Mummy was gasping for breath and then papa tied her neck and hanged her from the ceiling fan,” said Dubagga SHO Anil Prakash Singh.
“The constable also fled the spot while the probe was under way, which strengthened our suspicion. On Saturday, the post mortem examination report confirmed the cause of death by strangulation. Later, on an informer’s tip off, Gautam was arrested from his hiding place in Dubagga,” he added.
