Hakwa Nadro

Today I salute Hakwa Nadroga for an awesome performance.

You came. You saw, you conquered.

Congratulations to the young Nadro Stallions.

The Inkk Farebrother Sullivan Trophy, the Holy Grail of Fiji rugby changed hands proudly.

To my homeside Jacks Nadi, I am truly disappointed with our scrums.

We were a sad sight.

We take the loss 19-20.

On the day, Nadroga are deserved winners.

Celebrate Hakwa Nadro.

Stallions survive stern test

Nadroga challenged Nadi for the Inkk Farebrother Sullivan Trophy and came out victorious.

Nadi’s win against Suva by a point (25-24) meant that Nadroga got a second shot at the title this year.

Suva came close to upsetting the Jetsetters, but missed out by the narrowest of margin and through the boot of Nadi full back Tevita Mociu.

Nadroga lost to Naitasiri in their first challenge at Naluwai Park by 27-29.

The impressive Stallions beat Tailevu 24-10 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori and then proved too strong for Naitasiri at Lawaqa Park last Saturday, winning the tough encounter 30-22.

They earned a bonus point and denied the Highlanders a bonus point.

Against the clinical Nadi outfit in front of their home fans and passionate Nadroga fans, the Stallions proved the better side and went one step as they took the trophy back to Nadroga.

Hearty congratulations to the Stallions for surviving the crunching battle!

The Nadroga trophy cabinet was empty and it hurt especially when our cabinet had always been full of trophies.

The Stallions played their hearts out, defended their try-line, made use of every opportunity and brought back the glory days.

Wananavu Nadroga!

I’m so proud of the Stallions.

Safety first

It’s sad to see the picture of a wrecked vehicle with a covering letter in The Fiji Times (23/6).

As speeding seems to be one of the major causes of fatal accidents, the authorities keep reminding us to take precautions.

The police warn drivers with radars, to slow down and arrive alive.

Those consultations

As we know the ruling government’s top guns are going around the country at the moment as part of national budget consultations.

So if they make any promises during the process, is it the Government making the promise or the FijiFirst party?

Because if it is the party making the promises, then they need to make submissions in terms of how they will fund the expenditure as required by the campaigning laws.

How do you distinguish when the same person is wearing two hats?

I believe, a clear case of blurred lines.

Sunday morning

On this Sunday morning, I only have this.

Oh!

What a joke!

Racism issue

Vinaka Paul Geraghty for your valuable insights on racism while associating the diverse lifestyles of Fiji’s two major ethnicities (FT 25/06).

Yes, some tend to mistakenly (or deliberately) construe and base their observations along vile racial tones, as you have evidently cited in your letter.

Of course we all have a different approach to interpreting various scenarios.

For example, what if I write that according to statistics, Indo-Fijians are far more successful academically, financially, in the business sector and lead a better quality of life compared with their iTaukei counterparts not just in Fiji but on a global scale?

What if I mention that the majority of the individuals incarcerated in local prisons are indigenous Fijians?

What if I further say that during my early Sunday morning walks to Marine Drive, I encounter several drunks passed out by the roadside and pavements?

Guess what ethnicity a chunk of them belong to?

With the above being fact-based analysis and not assumptions, will that still qualify me as a racist?

One should not opportunely turn mere observations into common misconceptions.

Two masters

THERE is competition and opportunism in politics while there is love and forgiveness in religion.

Serving two masters is serving two different purposes.

I hope our politicians will remember the account of the disciple Judas.

Betrayal is sweet before bitterness.

The poor

The poor will always be with us.

Some people will never be able to get out of poverty.

If you don’t believe me, come walk with me.

Price of milk

So, the Rewa milk powder price increases.

What is next?

Will be really good to see some prices dropping.

The poor getting more poor.

When will this trend change?

Kirti Patel, Lautoka

Workplace productivity

Why is our Ministry of Labour and Productivity including one of its main stakeholders the Fiji Employers Federation not issuing a press statement regarding the release of a recent report by IFC in its “Supporting gender equal work place in Fiji” which was captured in your FT 04/06/22 (headline) and again on FT 24/06/22 (Pg 24).

This report is not something to be shelved because it concerns the value of human life, mostly about our women and girls.

Domestic violence, gender-based violence or sexual harassment affects our nation’s productivity.

That is the sad reality.

Pension pays

The Fiji Times reporting “FNPF announces 6 per cent interest for members” (FT 24/6) to be credited to their accounts on June 30, is some relief in this cost of living crisis.

All the members including pensioners feel secured to receive such payments they rightly deserve.

Sometimes, on our eligibility, we are tempted to withdraw the whole lump sum at once with zero balance left on our account to go on pension.

However, we overlook that pension pays as our lifetime future assets.

Today, there are many members enjoying their retirement with the FNPF pensions.

We make a living in our retirement at times during our rainy days with our pensions accordingly as we say “hello to pension and goodbye to tension”.

We all should look forward to securing our future with FNPF.

Long live FNPF with the blessings of its members!

Interesting scenarios

Wiser people always say: “Do not point a finger at someone else; As there are always three which point directly back at you on every occasion.”

Some day, they will come back to haunt you when you least expect them.

Fiji’s election campaign is laced with much “you cannot do this; and you cannot do that”.

What a troubled way to go.

Public perceptions, as powerful as they are, will prevail at the 2022 polls.

No care attitude

There seems to be a “no-care” attitude, when something is free for us to use.

We don’t seem to really take ownership, or be responsible on how to properly use it.

When the item is not ours, it’s use, we all seem to flout.

Moreso, when it is donated and when we don’t personally own it.

It maybe just human nature, being wasteful, irresponsible and not so clever.

We still have a lot to learn and a lot of respect, we still yet have to earn.

Meanwhile, a lot of money is being spent, for running repairs and necessary maintenance.

Imagine this

Just imagine if the FF government was to decree that all in one family had to have the same surname.

Man, I can say, get stuffed!

Allen Lockington, Kava Place, Lautoka

Path of truth

FT 23/6/22 reported FijiFirst Minister Parveen Kumar at Field 40, Lautoka on Saturday told the people to walk on the path of truth even if the road is not smooth.

Can I ask the minister how truthfully has he walked on the path of “truth”?

Sharveen Chaudhary, Verata

Smart borrowing

The A-G asked where will the money come from?

It will come from smart borrowing from the same lenders.

The question reminds me of an interview where they asked me: “Why do you want to work here?”

So I just asked them: “Why do you people work here?”

Sukha Singh, Labasa

Those trips

The PA leadership flew to New Zealand in style to beg for money to raise money for their election campaign.

I suspect there will be another such trip planned for the same reason to the USA soon.

I know a few beggars on the streets of Lautoka who have full chow at restaurants during their day’s work.

There is nothing wrong with that or going begging by flying business class as far as I am concerned.

What irks me is when these hypocrites complain that the government is surviving on foreign aid.

What irks me even more is that many Fijians think these hypocrites are the right people to run the country.

But then, in a free society, everyone has the right to be stupid if they so choose.

In my opinion, those who turn up to the fundraiser are the biggest idiots.

Undo what?

The PM says there are people looking to undo the great work the FF Government has done.

May I respectfully ask, undo what — the young children selling food to help their families survive?

Undo the constant water and power outages?

Undo the selling of EFL shares which was sold for a song?

Is Nadi Airport next on the list?

I’m sure there are a few other things that need undoing like certain freedom limiting laws that need to be undone including bringing back the GCC.

If you have your ears to the ground, I’m sure you’re aware of the deep feelings people are carrying because of your government’s lack of concern for the welfare of so many poor, neglected and needy trying every single day to eke out a living.

Yeah, there’s a mountain of undoing to be done.

Because I pity the next government that comes to power.

They’ll have their work cut out undoing the gaping economic holes left behind.

Isa noqu Viti.
