Mother Of Two From Pune Set Guinness Record By Cycling From Leh To Manali In Less Than 56 Hours

Preeti Maske, a cyclist from Pune, Maharashtra has set a new Guinness World Record by becoming the fastest woman to cycle solo from Leh to Manali.

Preeti who started cycling from Leh on June 22 to Manali covering over 430 kilometres reached her destination in 55 hours and 13 minutes on Friday.

She had 60 hours to set the record

The Guinness World Record had given her a window of 60 hours to complete this challenge.

Her journey was flagged off by Brigadier Gaurav Karki, chief engineer of Border Roads Organization (BRO), in Leh on June 22 and was received by Colonel Shabarish Vachali, commander of BRO's 38 Border Roads Task Force, in Manali on June 24.

"Feeling top of the world to ride challenging route of Leh to Manali for Guiness world records and WUCA records , terrain was challenging with elevation and constantly changing weather , could finish at 55 hrs ,13 minutes and 0 seconds," she said in an Instagram post.

"Well Done- Ms Preeti Maske. World Ultra Cycling Record successfully attempted. Ms Preeti completed the arduous 480 km Cycling Expedition from Leh to Manali in 55 hrs 13 minutes. She crossed four mountain passes under extreme weather conditions," the BRO said in a Tweet.

During her marathon cycling expedition, Preeti's total elevation gain was more than 26,000 feet.

Preeti Maske's other achievements 

The 45-year-old mother of two has set several records against her name after taking up cycling in 2017.

In December 2019, Preeti along with two other cyclists completed Kashmir to Kanyakumari Cycling Expedition in 17 days 17 hours, cycling 3773 Kms and setting a group world record for the fastest completion.

In the same month, she also cycled from Nashik, Maharashtra to Amritsar, Punjab - a distance of 1600 kms in 5 days and 5 hours, becoming the only female cyclist to have successfully completed this route.  

In March 2021 she finished the Golden Quadralateral 6000 km cycling with a Guinness record in 24 days and 6 hours covering East west North south Mumbai-Chennai-Kolkatta-Delhi -Mumbai.

"Age is not a barrier to explore your passion," she says about her achievements.
