Brief flooding likely in Shariatpur, Madaripur

Some parts of the country are still likely to witness brief flood situations in the next 24 hours, according to the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) forecast.

There is a chance of a short-duration flood in the low-lying area of Shariatpur and Madaripur districts in the next 24 hours, the BWDB’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said in a bulletin on Sunday.

In the next 48-72 hours, there is a chance of heavy rainfall at places of the SubHimalayan West-Bengal (Jalpaiguri, Sikkim), it stated.

As a result, the water level of Teesta River may rise and close to danger level at Dalia Point, as per the bulletin.

Seven points of six major rivers are above the danger level, according to the BWDB forecast.

However, all the major rivers in the country are in a declining trend, it says.

The Brahmaputa-Jamuna, Ganges-Padma and all the major rivers of the northeastern region of the country may continue falling in the next 48 hours, while the Dharala and Dudhkumar rivers of northern Bangladesh may continue falling in the next 24 hours, it said.

Flood situation in the Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria districts may continue improving in next 24 hours, it pointed out.
