SP Bastions Breached in UP as BJP Bags Rampur, Azamgarh; AAP Loses CM Mann’s LS Seat Sangrur to SAD(A)

The by-poll wins in Azamgarh and Rampur are historic. It indicates wide-scale acceptance and support for the double engine Governments at the Centre and in UP. Grateful to the people for their support. I appreciate the efforts of our Party Karyakartas.

Complacency and overconfidence contributed to shock defeats for the Samajwadi Party (SP) in its bastions of Azamgarh and Rampur in the Lok Sabha byelections as well as for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab’s Sangrur, its Chief Minister’s parliamentary fortress.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav did not even campaign in Rampur or Azamgarh, while UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath aggressively did. This was despite Azamgarh being Yadav’s parliamentary seat, which he gave up to retain Karhal assembly seat in a bid to be more aggressive against the Yogi government in UP. Delivering a body blow to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which romped home with 92 assembly seats in the recently held elections, its candidate lost from politically important Sangrur parliamentary constituency, the bypolls for which were held after sitting MP and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann vacated it. In a cliffhanger of an electoral battle between AAP candidate Gurmail Singh and SAD Amritsar leader Simranjit Singh Mann, the latter scraped through with a margin of over 6,000 votes. READ MORE 

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday called his party’s win in the Rajinder Nagar Assembly bypoll the “defeat of BJP’s dirty politics” and thanked the people for appreciating the work done by his government in the national capital. The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Durgesh Pathak defeated BJP candidate Rajesh Bhatia by a margin of over 11,000 votes in the bypoll, officials said.

AD (Amritsar)’s Simranjit Singh Mann on Sunday won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat after defeating his nearest rival, AAP’s Gurmail Singh, by a margin of 5,822 votes. Mann polled 2,53,154 votes, while Gurmail Singh secured 2,47,332 votes, as per the data available. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the state earlier conceded defeat in the seat and congratulated Mann. Addressing the media, AAP spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said, “We respect the mandate of the people of Sangrur seat. We also congratulate Simranjit Singh Mann on his victory.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Rampur Lok Sabha bypoll and is leading on the Azamgarh seat.

“We’ve won in Rampur. We’re also ahead of others in Azamgarh. I’d like to thank the voters who’re handing us this victory based on PM Modi’s numerous welfare schemes and the performance of the CM,” said UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak.

BJP is inching closer to victory in UP’s Rampur. The Saffron  party is ahead in the Lok Sabha constituency by more than 34,000 votes. Official announcement awaited.

As Aam Aadmi Party candidate Durgesh Pathak was ahead with a huge margin in the Rajinder Nagar assembly seat of Delhi, party leader Raghav Chadha took to Twitter to congratulate him and to “pass on the baton” to him.

“I thank all the constituents of Rajinder Nagar assembly constituency for once again showering their love and blessing on AAP. Today’s by poll victory is an affirmation of ‘Kejriwal Model of Governance.’ Best wishes to my brother Durgesh Pathak, as I pass on the baton to him,” Raghav Chadha said.

The bypoll in Rajinder Nagar was necessitated in the wake of AAP leader Raghav Chadha leaving the seat after being elected to the Rajya Sabha recently.

Punjan Sangrur Lok Sabha Bypoll:

Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) candidate Simranjit singh Mann is leading by 4845 votes.

Rajinder Nagar assembly bypoll status after 11th round

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading on both Lok Sabha bypoll seats in Uttar Pradesh – Azamgarh and Rampur – while the Samajwadi Party (SP) is a close second on both.
