Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Now, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is going to collect green waste separately. Indore, which was adjudged cleanest city for five times in a row, segregates six types of waste at source. Now, it will segregate seven types of waste at source with IMC deciding to collect green waste separately.
In a review meeting, municipal commissioner Pratibha Pal noted when wet waste reaches the compost plant green waste is also found mixed with it.
“In such a situation, green waste has to be separated from wet waste for making compost,” she said.
Pal stated that it would be better if we separate green waste at source.
She directed chief sanitary inspectors (CSIs) to identify areas where green waste is generated most and decide a day for collecting waste from those places. “Separate vehicles will be tasked with collecting green waste,” she said.
She stated that the people should be made aware of the day when IMC vehicles will come for collecting the green waste so that they can also separate it at the source and put it in an IMC vehicle that reaches their locality.
An arrangement should also be made for collecting green waste from gardens, she said.
The IMC vehicles would collect green waste from different parts of the city and take it to the composters located at Meghdoot Upvan, Sirpur, Regional Park, Zoo, Jinsi Haat Maidan, Nehru Park and Trenching Ground to make compost from green waste.
Indore segregates six types of waste at source including dry waste, wet waste, sanitary waste, e-waste, hazardous waste and plastic waste.
For each type of waste, different compartments are fitted to IMC vans. Compartment colours are different. Blue colour compartment is for dry waste, green colour for wet waste, grey colour for e-waste, yellow colour for sanitary waste, black colour for hazardous waste and one for plastic waste.
Household hazardous waste includes fused bulbs, tube lights and other glass materials.
