Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore Municipal Corporation has pulled up its socks to make the city the best in rainwater conservation. With monsoon knocking at the doors, the IMC wants the maximum number of buildings in the city to install water harvesting systems, and the IMC commissioner Pratibha Pal has set July 10 as the deadline.
IMC officials said that the municipal commissioner Pal on Sunday took a review meeting of the works done by the IMC officials regarding the water harvesting in the city. She said building officers and building inspectors must ensure that 100 per cent of buildings (industries, marriage gardens, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, malls, multi-storey buildings, schools and commercial establishments) in their area have water harvesting systems in place by July 10.
She also instructed officials to install water harvesting systems at the houses developed under PM Avas Yojna and BHUP’s buildings in the city.
She also made it compulsory for installing water harvesting systems and water recharging systems at industries present in the industrial areas of the city.
IMC officials said that the main purpose for such drives and compulsions in the city is to conserve the rainwater and to increase the groundwater level in the city. There are many areas in the city which face water scarcity and this problem could be solved by water conservation.
