Seized drugs worth crores destroyed in M’luru, Udupi
Mangaluru/ Udupi: Mangaluru city police have destroyed Rs 1.3 crore worth of seized drugs, including ganja, heroin and MDMA, as part of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, on Sunday.
DCP (law and order) Hariram Shankar, said that the drugs were disposed of at Ramky Energy and Environment limited in Mulki. He said, 580.9 kg of ganja worth Rs 1.2 crore, 25g of heroin worth Rs 1.4 lakh and 320g MDMA worth Rs 11.2 lakh, seized in connection with 97 cases reported from 15 police stations in the city limits, were disposed of.
Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane said that after obtaining permission from the court, drugs seized in 11 cases, registered in various police station limits have been destroyed.
About 53.1 kg of ganja worth Rs 23.8 lakh, and 120g of heroin worth Rs 30 lakh were destroyed at the biomedical waste management unit, Ramky Energy and Environment Limited, at Mulki.
Dakshina Kannada Police Narcotics Disposal Committee head Rishikesh Sonawane, ASP Bantwal sub-division Shivanshu Rajput and Puttur sub-division DSP Gana P Kumar, were present during the destruction of the narcotics.
The Udupi district police destroyed drugs seized in 19 cases, at the Ayush Envirotech Private Limited, Nandikur Industrial Area, Padubidri. The police destroyed 9.7 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.7 lakh and 410g charas worth Rs 55,000. The total worth of the property destroyed is Rs 3.3 lakh. SP N Vishnuvardhan and additional SP S T Singalingappa were present.
