Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Doctor’ robs valuables from patient, bystanders

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In yet another robbery at the Trivandrum Medical College Hospital (TMCH) in a month, an unknown man, aged approximately 30, robbed money, mobile phone and a watch from a patient and bystanders on Sunday morning.
However, police have not yet registered any case in the absence of a formal complaint from anyone in this regard. Two purses having an amount of Rs 3,500 in it were robbed from a heart patient and her daughter in the pay ward.Gomathi, a native of Ilamba at Venjaramoodu, was admitted to the TMCH five days ago for heart valve transplantation.
On Saturday night, the suspect wearing an apron and a stethoscope approached them as a doctor and checked the patient’s pulse. The next day morning, he came again and checked the pulse. After he left, when the bystander Sunitha, Gomathi’s daughter, looked for the purse to buy tea, she found both of their purses were missing.
Sunitha approached the security guard with a complaint, but they asked them to go to the police station.
Meanwhile, two other persons Krishnakumar (35), a native of Powdikonam, and Kishore, a native of Kudappanakkunnu came up with a complaint of losing their mobile phone and watch at the same time.
Police said they are unable to probe the incident in the absence of a formal complaint.
On May 22, a 22-year-old man, who posed as a doctor, cheated money from a patient at TMCH.
Health minister Veena George had vowed to take measures to intensify security at the hospital in view of the incident and the latest incident in a month period exposes flaws in the medical college security system.
