YAVATMAL: “I am in Guwahati with the rebels as an emissary of chief minister Uddhav Thackeray,” said sitting Sena MLA from Digras and former forest minister Sanjay Rathod on Sunday, even as Shiv Sainiks in the district started reacting to the turmoil caused due to rebellion by elected representatives.
Rathod, however, clarified that he would not join the BJP and instead prefer not to contest election.

In Umarkhed, Shiv Sainiks gathered at the local Shivaji Chowk where they burnt the effigies of rebels Eknath Shinde and Sanjay Rathod.
Sena workers burnt effigies of Shinde, Rathod, district guardian minister Sandipan Bhumre and MP Bhavana Gawali at Yavatmal’s Maheshwari Chowk, Gayatri Chowk and Sanjay Gandhi Chowk in protest against their act of defying party leadership.
“All Sena MLAs should work as one entity for the benefit and betterment of all,” said Rathod while speaking to TOI on phone from Guwahati. “Shinde is our group leader and we are in his camp at present to have a close watch over the latest developments,” he said.
“I have achieved all the success due to Balasaheb Thackeray,” said Rathod, appealing to both party chief Uddhav Thackeray and rebel leader Eknath Shinde to settle the issues amicably.

When asked why police security has been tightened at his Yavatmal house and office, Rathod said he didn’t know about it and why it has been done.
The former forest minister also said he would attend the inaugural function of the renovated temple at Dhamangaon in Darwha tehsil on June 30. “It is my dream project and I have brought funds for upgrading the temple as a pilgrimage destination,” he said. June 30 also happens to be Rathod’s birthday.
Meanwhile, Yavatmal district Shiv Sena chief Parag Pingle has, in a press release, said Shiv Sainiks are firmly behind the party chief Uddhav Thackeray. He condemned the disgruntled MLAs and their supporters for trying to break the party, which was built by Balasaheb Thackeray. “A true Sainik would never forget or betray the ideology of Balasaheb,” he said.
District chiefs Pingle, Vishwas Nandekar and Rajendra Gaikwad, sampark pramukh Santosh Dhawale, deputy district chief Pravin Pande, former MLA Balasaheb Munginwar and others have appealed to the Sainiks not to be carried away by rumours.
As senior district level leaders have left for Mumbai to attend a meeting called by party chief, the rally planned to be taken out on Monday has been postponed, said Pingle.
