Arson over Agnipath: 43 FIRs in 72 hrs, over 1,000 booked

Uttar Pradesh police has booked over 1,000 more youths in connection with protests and arson against Agnipath scheme.As per the police dossier, 43 more FIRs have been registered in the last 72 hours.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh police has booked over 1,000 more youths in connection with protests and arson against Agnipath scheme.
As per the police dossier, 43 more FIRs have been registered in the last 72 hours.
Overall, as many as 1,562 youths have been booked and 82 FIRs registered in 31 districts of the state.
Of the total booked, 498 youths have been booked under major offences of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), while 1,064 have been booked under the charges of breach of peace, taking the total tally of those booked to 1,562.

A maximum of 535 have been booked in Jaunpur district where government buses were vandalised, followed by Ballia where 222 have been booked, and an empty train coach was torched.
The districts where fresh cases have been registered include two each in Basti, Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Ayodhya, and one each in Sitapur, Rae Bareli, Kannauj, Ghaziabad, Mainpuri, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalitpur, Unnao, Kanpur Dehat, Fatehgarh and Mainpuri.

So far, only Varanasi police commissionerate and district administration has assessed the losses and pegged it at Rs 12.97 lakh.
On June 17, as many as 36 UPSRTC buses were damaged by protestors.
Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General of police, law and order, Prashant Kumar, said that probe is ongoing in all the districts of the state wherever protests or violence had taken place .
