Tonnes of PDS grains seized

Rajkot: Several tonnes of wheat and rice meant for distribution under the public distribution scheme (PDS) were seized in Junagadh and Surendranagar as these had been diverted to be sold in the open market.
The special operations group (SOG) raided three godowns in Junagadh's Bantwa village and seized 7,750kg wheat and 7,850kg rice from the godown of Deva Rabari, 11,750kg wheat and 2,400kg rice from the godown of Jaysinh Parmar and 3,000kg wheat and 5,350kg wheat from the warehouse of Manga Goswami.SOG sources said the accused used to divert the grains meant for PDS in the open market, flour mills and other units. In Surendranagar, police seized 57,935kg wheat and rice worth Rs 13 lakh from the godown of one Takhatsinh Parmar, owner of Raghav Food and Protein Ltd. TNN
