Bengaluru: 2 arrested for killing elderly woman during scuffle

BENGALURU: Two brothers have been arrested by Doddaballapur Rural police for allegedly murdering a 65-year-old woman during a fight at Chikkamuddenahalli village on Friday.
Police identified the deceased as Gangamma. Her son Vijayakumar sustained minor injuries in the attack. The accused are Sudhakar, 23, and his elder brother Maruthi. Preliminary probe revealed that Sudhakar and his family members used to take sub-contract for government projects in his village.They came to know that Vijayakumar was going around alleging that the family was guilty of committing irregularities in works under MGNREGA.
Sudhakar, Maruthi and their parents, Hanumantarayappa and Chinnakka, allegedly barged into the elderly woman’s residence around 6.30pm on Friday. Sudhakar questioned Vijayakumar about his complaint and the group started assaulting him. When Gangamma intervened to save her son, they kicked her. She fell to the floor and later was rushed to a hospital, where she breathed her last around 8pm. tnn
