Karnataka clinch boys team c’ship

Karnataka won the team championship in the boys’ category fetching 122 points with a haul of four gold, four silver and six bronze medals at the 38th Sub-junior National Aquatic Championships in Rajkot on Sunday.

Bengaluru: Karnataka won the team championship in the boys’ category fetching 122 points with a haul of four gold, four silver and six bronze medals at the 38th Sub-junior National Aquatic Championships in Rajkot on Sunday.
On the final day, the state swimmers picked up one gold, three silver and four bronze medals, including two in diving. In all, Karnataka finished with five gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals in the three-day event.
Leading the charge was Sharan Sridhara, who picked up the gold in the 400-metre freestyle clocking four minutes, 47.14 seconds, 11 seconds ahead of Ishan Ghosh (4:58.43).
Later, Sridhara took the 100-metre backstroke bronze medal in a time of 1:14.63. Ghosh (1:12.47) took the gold and Kabilan T (1:13.86) the bronze.
Y Reyansh Kanthi (50m butterfly silver and 50m breaststroke bronze), Trisha Sindhu (girls 50m freestyle silver), and Alyssa Sweedal Rego (girls 50m butterfly) were the other medal winners for the state. In girls Group III, Karnataka’s Poorvika Venkatesh clinched the 3m (144.80 points) and 1m (126.95s) springboard diving bronze medals. On the opening day, she won the high board diving bronze.
