MYSURU: Tourists who visit Mysuru in the future can rent a bicycle from the Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) Trin Trin system and use the dedicated cycle tracks for cycling. The MCC is planning to develop 8.7km of cycle tracks at an estimated cost of Rs 3.5 crore. These tracks are located around the Mysuru Palace.
Dedicated cycle lanes are one of the key demands of city cyclists.
Even though attempts were earlier made to create dedicated lanes, none of them are functional.
However, other vehicles will not be allowed on the new cycle lanes which will be made using synthetic materials.
“The works of these dedicated cycle tracks will commence in a week’s time and it will be completed in a year,” said Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy.
All these tracks are proposed around the palace - between JLB road (between MN junction to Ashoka circle), Krishnaraja Boulevard (Koutilya circle to Kannegowda circle), Chamaraja double road (Ekalavya circle to Ramaswamy circle), New Kantharaja Urs road (Kannegowda circle to Ashoka circle), Sita Vilas Road (MN Jois junction to Kukkarahalli lake gate), and Bogadi road (Kukkarahalli lake gate to university gate).
Cyclists are happy with MCC’s decision. However, they are demanding dedicated lanes even in other places. “Since 2020, there are talks of dedicated cycle tracks. However, it was delayed. With Trin Trin gearing up for a major revamp, all the cyclists are eagerly waiting for the dedicated lanes,” said Chandra SK, a regular cyclist.
