Voters wishing to cast a ballot in Democratic and Republican Party primary elections have until the close of polls June 28 in which to do so.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, June 28, at the Morgan County Administration Building, 231 Ensign Street in Fort Morgan. All ballots cast must be done so either in-person or by drop box. The assigned drop box locations are Brush City Hall, 600 Edison St.; Wiggins Town Hall, 304 Central St.; and to the west of the Morgan County Administration Building.

There is no opposed race on the Democratic Party primary ballot. Appearing on the Democratic ballot are Michael Bennet for U.S. Senator, Ike McCorkle for District 4 U.S. Representative, Jared Polis for governor, Jena Griswold for secretary of state, Dave Young for state treasurer, Phil Weiser for attorney general, Kathy Plomer for state board of education-at large, and Jack Barrington for University of Colorado Regent-District 4. Democrats did not field a candidate for District 1 state senator, District 63 state representative or for any Morgan County level office.

The Republican Party primary ballot includes a number of opposed federal, state and county races. Joe O’Dea faces Ron Hanks in the U.S. Senate race; Ken Buck is opposed by Robert Lewis for District 4 U.S. Representative; Heidi Ganahl and Greg Lopez are vying for governor; Pam Anderson, Mike O’Donnell and Tina Peters are candidates for secretary of state; Rep. Richard Holtorf faces Jessie Vance for District 63 state representative; Val Loose and Kevin Strauch are vying for county clerk; and Mike Dahl and Chazz Luciano are candidates for coroner. Unopposed candidates on the Republican Party primary ballot include Lang Sias for state treasurer, John Kellner for attorney general, Dan Maloit for state board of education-at large, Frank McNulty for University of Colorado Regent-District 4, Byron Pelton for District 1 state senator, Jon Becker for District 2 commissioner, Robert Sagel for county treasurer, Tim Amen for county assessor and Dave Martin for sheriff.

Morgan County Clerk Susan Bailey and County Coroner Don Heer are retiring from office and won’t appear on the ballot. State Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg is term-limited and is running for Logan County commissioner.

Ballots cast by mail must be received by the close of polls on Election Day, and election officials warn it is too late now to place a ballot in the mail and expect it to arrive in time to be counted on Election Day.

Voters may only cast a ballot in one party’s primary. Registered Democratic and Republican voters may only cast a ballot in their party’s primary. Unaffiliated voters may elect to cast a ballot in either primary, but not both.

Election officials are reporting 3,311 of 17,297 issued ballots in Morgan County, 19.14 percent, had been cast as of 7 a.m. Monday.

All in-person voters must present identification, including a Colorado driver’s license or identification card. Voters in line at the polling place by 7 p.m. will be allowed to cast a ballot.

Accessible voting machines are available in polling places, allowing access for those with disabilities.

Morgan County participates in the state’s BallotTrax program and electors may register at colorado.ballottrax.net/voter to receive emails or other communication as to the status of their ballot, both prior to and after casting a ballot. The system will change to “ballot received” upon the county clerk’s office receiving the voter’s ballot. The final stage will be “accepted,” which indicates the election judge has accepted the ballot through signature verification.

Voters may call 970-542-3521, option 5, with any questions pertaining to the election.
