Rajkot/Palanpur: Rain fury has claimed two lives in Saurashtra and one in North Gujarat in the last two days.
The body of a 30-year-old assistant engineer working with GETCO was found Sunday late night near Bagasara in Amreli district. The victim Khushal Vekariya was swept away in a causeway near Jamka village on Saturday when heavy rain pounded the district.
His bike slipped and he got dragged by the strong currents.
A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had to extricate his body from the muck.
In another incident, a 65-year-old factory owner died after a tree collapsed on him in Morbi district.
The deceased Jagdish Kotecha, who owns nuts and bolt making unit in Morbi GIDC, was returning from a political meeting near Wankaner. As it started pouring, he parked the scooter beneath the tree. Kotecha died in a Rajkot hospital on Sunday.
A 24-year-old man from Khalipur village in Malpur taluka of Aravalli district died after a tree fell on him on Sunday evening. The deceased identified as Bhavesh Khant, was riding a bike with his wife and two-year-old son when the incident occurred.

According to district officials, Khant was returning to his village from his in-laws house in Suratnapura village. When they were passing through Piprana village a tree fell on them. While Khant succumbed to injuries on the spot, his wife and son escaped unhurt, said district officials.
Meanwhile, Aravalli district officials have issued an alert in villages near Hatmati river which was flowing bank-to-bank. District officials have urged villagers not to go near the river as the water current was very heavy.
