NAGPUR: Across Maharashtra, Std XI common admission process (CAP) for state board affiliated institutes has been put on hold till the CBSE/ICSE Std X results are announced.
Education minister Varsha Gaikwad told TOI that the decision has been taken so that students from both the boards can participate in the CAP right from the start.
CAP is the sole gateway to Class XI in selected urban centres, with Nagpur and Amravati being two cities in Vidarbha.

Speaking exclusively to TOI, Gaikwad said, “We will start the admission process only when results of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) are declared. It is just a matter of another 10 days or so and then students from both the boards can begin the admission process.”
This means a long wait for SSC students, whose results were declared on June 17. Sources say CBSE results are likely to be declared in the second week of July and till then SSC students too have to stay put.
Gaikwad said, “My department contemplated starting admissions for various quotas (in-house, management etc), and then general admissions could start post CBSE/ICSE results. But then we were told that doing such a thing may run into problem if someone approaches court. Hence, we decided to wait for a few more days.”

So while students seeking admission to city colleges have no choice but to wait, others will be back in their classrooms for a new academic session within next few days. As CAP is mandatory only for colleges within city limits, others have already started completing admission formalities.
In Gadchiroli district, the new academic session for Class XI is scheduled to start this week itself. Rajabhau Munghate, a senior academic from Gadchiroli, said, “In my college, the admission formalities are complete and we have announced July 1 as the first day of the academic session.”
