Site for IIT-Goa campus will be finalised after director visits land, says CM Pramod Sawant

PANAJI: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday that the IIT-Goa director will inspect the land identified at Sanguem for its permanent campus, and after this, the site would be finalised.
“We are identifying the land to set up the IIT campus,” Sawant said. “We have identified 7.5 lakh sqm in Sanguem, but the final decision will be taken after the IIT director visits the site.”
Sawant chaired a meeting regarding the site selection for the IIT campus, and asked social welfare minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai, the revenue and education deparments, along with the panchayat and IIT director, to conduct a site inspection and submit a report at the earliest.
Last month, Sawant had said that the process of verification of documents of the land at Sanguem is under way.
“Once the documents are verified and everything is found to be in order, the location will be finalised. But definitely, Sanguem will be our preference for setting up the IIT,” Sawant had said.
