Salem: Goondas Act to be slapped on rice smugglers

SALEM: Goondas Act will be slapped on PDS rice smugglers, collector S Karmegam said on Monday. “There are 1,601 ration shops in Salem, including 445 part-time shops. I regularly get information about PDS rice smuggled out of hideouts. The food cell CID wing is taking stern action against the offenders,” the collector told reporters. “Hereafter, the offender will face criminal charges under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.”
“Those who sell PDS rice to other people will also face action.Their ration cards will be cancelled,” he added. TNN
