Justice Satish Chandra Sharma takes oath as Chief Justice of Delhi high court

Earlier this month the law ministry notified the transfer of Satish Chandra Sharma from the Telangana high court, where he was also chief justice, to the national capital.

Justice Satish Chandra Sharma on Tuesday took oath as the chief justice of the Delhi high court. He was sworn in by lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at a ceremony in the Raj Niwas - the LG's secretariat. After the retirement of Justice DN Patel the top post in the high court had been vacant.

Earlier this month the law ministry notified the transfer of Satish Chandra Sharma from the Telangana high court, where he was also chief justice, to the national capital and directed him to 'assume charge of the office of the chief justice of the Delhi high court'.

Justice Satish Chandra Sharma has earlier served as acting chief justice of Karnataka high court.

He previously also served in the Madhya Pradesh high court, where he was appointed an additional judge in January 2008 and a permanent judge two years later, in January 2010.

Justice Sharma is also on the advisory board of the National Law Institute University in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, in the same law ministry notification, justices AA Sayed, SS Shinde, Rashmin M Chhaya and Ujjal Bhuyan were elevated as the chief justices of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Guwahati and Telangana high courts, respectively.

The acting chief justice of the Delhi high court - Justice Vipin Sanghi - is now the chief justice of Uttarakhand high court.

The decisions were taken by the Collegium headed by chief justice of India NV Ramana.
