TRICHY: The Trichy city police have launched an investigation into the death of a 30-year-old woman who underwent in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment at a private hospital.
V Kavitha from Sendurai in Ariyalur district died on Sunday after she developed bleeding following the IVF procedure done on her.
The Srirangam police took up the case based on a complaint from her husband R Vijaykumar on Sunday.

According to police, Vijaykumar and Kavitha were married for 14 years. They had no child. So, the couple had been taking medications and treatment. The couple opted for IVF treatment at a private hospital in Trichy for the past six months. Later, she was referred to another private hospital of the same group in the city where she was undergoing treatment for the past one week.
Vijaykumar said that the IVF procedure was performed on Kavitha by 6.30pm on June 20. She started bleeding from 9pm the same day. The bleeding could not be stopped despite treatment. Eventually, she died.
The postmortem was performed on her body on Monday and handed over to her family members.
Police have booked a case of suspicious death under Section 174 of CrPc. They said that they were awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death. In case of any medical negligence leading to the mortality, the case will be altered accordingly, said the police.
