Jamshedpur, June 28: In a carrot and stick policy, the Jugsalai civic body has threatened action against those who make the roads dirty, while those who clean it will be felicitated.

On the directive of Jugsalai municipal corporation executive officer, J. P Yadav, an IEC awareness drive and monitoring session were arranged in different parts of Jugsalai to make people aware of keeping roads clean.

The main objective of this program was to prevent people from throwing garbage on the side of the road, proper disposal of the dumped waste as well as to keep the streets, drains and localities of the city clean.

Jugsalai Municipal Council has identified such places and localities where waste was removed by making people aware earlier, but people are throwing garbage again at the same place by not picking up garbage from house to house and threatening of action.

In front of Agrasen Bhawan, Ward No. 9 of Jugsalai Municipal Council, people throw garbage on the road on a large scale despite several IEC sessions among the masses.

Masses were threatened with fine on the basis of evidence collected from CCTV cameras . Along with this, financial penalty was also collected from the people on the basis of the evidence of CCTV cameras. As an executive officer, regular monitoring is necessary to keep any place clean and the process of ‘naming shaming’ has been very effective in big cities to bring about behavior change.

At the same time, appealed to the people not to throw garbage here and there and collect the garbage from house to house and separate it in the vehicle and make the Jugsalai clean.

The naming and shaming Strategy is used by big municipal corporations like Indore, Shimla, Panchkula to bring about behavior change. Now action will be taken by Jugsalai Municipal Council to bring behavior change under the same system.
