YAVATMAL: Shiv Sena Yavatmal district chief Rajendra Gaikwad has given an ultimatum to Digras MLA Sanjay Rathod to head to Matoshree and tender an apology to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray immediately, failing which he (Gaikwad) would demand the government to reopen the controversial Pooja Chavan suicide case.
Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Gaikwad said he had a 56-minute CD pertaining to Chavan’s suicide and the “direct involvement of Rathod” in it.
The same CD is with the police department too, he added.
When asked why they did not raise the issue so far, Gaikwad said it was their mistake as Rathod was their partyman. “Now he has gone to Guwahati along with the Eknath Shinde-led MLA camp. He is no more a faithful Shiv Sainik. Why should we support a betrayer?” Gaikwad said.
The Pune police commissioner had recently given a clean chit to Sanjay Rathod in the Chavan suicide case. Since then, Rathod and his supporters were lobbying for his re-induction in the cabinet.
Former minister Vasant Purke of Congress said Rathod was unreachable, but TOI spoke with Rathod on phone on Sunday. Asked if he would attend the inaugural function of the renovated Dhamangaon (Dev) temple and Mauli Sagar pilgrimage spot on June 30, Rathod said he would come back and attend the function as it is his dream project. Rathod’s office in Yavatmal has confirmed his visit.
Meanwhile, the district chief trio of Gaikwad, Parag Pingle and
Vishwas Nandekar has declared that they would go to Matoshree and submit a memorandum to party chief Uddhav Thackeray to demand strict action against Rathod, and to reopen investigation into the Chavan suicide case. They will be prepared to hand over the 56-minute CD to Thackeray.
While talking to TOI on Sunday, Rathod said he was in Guwahati as an emissary of Thackeray. It is, however speculated that the fate of Rathod is in jeopardy with the new controversy.
