BJP leaders lambasted the Congress government in Rajasthan today over the incident and claimed the state was on the way to become a “Talibani” region under its rule. Hitting out at the Ashok Gehlot-led government in the state, BJP leader and MP Rajyavardhan Rathore said, “Rajasthan is on the way to become a Talibani state under Congress rule. The appeasement of Muslims by Congress has increased the audacity of the jihadis to such an extent that they are openly killing Hindus and threatening the prime minister.” Holding the Gehlot government responsible for this “dastardly” incident in Udaipur, Rathore said this anarchy is the result of the authorities giving relaxation to miscreants from a particular religion.

The men who allegedly carried out the daylight murder and posted videos online admitting to the crime were taken into custody by police. In a video clip, one of the purported assailants declared that they had beheaded the man and then threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying their knife will get him as well. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), comprising of SOG ADG Ashok Kumar Rathore, ATS IG Prafulla Kumar, one SP and Additional SP, has been constituted to investigate the Udaipur matter.

The Centre is treating the gruesome killing of a tailor in Udaipur as a terror attack and dispatched a team of the anti-terror probe agency NIA on Tuesday night, officials said. Prima-facie it looks like a terror attack, an official said on condition of anonymity. The case is likely to be handed over to the NIA for probe after the registration of a case under the stringent anti-terror law Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. The men who allegedly carried out the daylight murder and posted videos online admitting to the crime were taken into custody by police.

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) today termed the killing of the tailor in Udaipur as a “challenge” to the country’s sovereignty as well as the freedom of thoughts and idea of secularism. The VHP demanded that adequate security be provided to expelled BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal as well as their family members, claiming that both of them are in the target of “jihadis”. “They perpetrated the gory incident and showed the audacity of threatening the prime minister of India with death while brandishing knives in front of the camera,” VHP working president Alok Kumar noted in a video message.

Curfew was imposed in seven police station areas of Udaipur from 8 pm till further orders today after the killing of a tailor in the Rajasthan city. Udaipur Collector Tarachand Meena issued the order to impose curfew in seven police station areas of Dhan Mandi, Ghanta Ghar, Hathi Pole, Amba Mata, Suraj Pole, Bhupalpura and Savina police stations. The curfew will be in force from 8 pm on Tuesday till further orders, according to the order. However, those engaged in essential services, students appearing in exams and staff engaged in examination process will be exempted.

BSP chief Mayawati has appealed to all to exercise restraint and maintain peace and order. “The government of Rajasthan should take all necessary steps immediately to ensure that the culprits get strict legal punishment as well as to keep the situation normal,” she tweeted.

Tension has gripped Udaipur city in Rajasthan after a tailor was murdered at a shop in broad daylight and the crime was filmed by the assailants. The two accused reached the victim’s shop on Tuesday afternoon under the Dhan Mandi police station area and attacked Kanhaiya Lal with a sharp-edged weapon while the other recorded the crime on his mobile phone, police said.
