SSI suspended for not acting on complaint
Coimbatore: A special sub-inspector (SSI) attached to the Singanallur police station was placed under suspension on Monday for allegedly failing to act on a complaint lodged by a AG Pudur resident.
Police said R Gopalakrishnan, 40, of AG Pudur, lodged a complaint with the Singanallur police on June 23 against his neighbour Annamalai, 41, for often quarrelling with him and his family members.

SSI Shanmugam received the complaint. The SSI neither took any action on the petition nor informed about it to the station house officer (SHO). When Gopalakrishnan approached the SSI twice, he did not get any update on his petition.
On Monday morning, Gopalakrishnan was stopped by the cops at the collectorate when he attempted to end his life by consuming chemical dye powder. He was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment. The Race Course police held an inquiry with Gopalakrishnan who told them that he was upset as no action was taken on his petition.
Following the incident, deputy commissioner of police (south) N Silambarasan held an inquiry and suspended Shanmugam.
