PATNA: In a bizarre statement on the rise in crime incidents, Union minister and RLJP national president Pashupati Kumar Paras on Tuesday said Bihar is a big state and something keeps happening.
Paras made the statement after meeting the family members of a jeweller, who was killed last week in Hajipur, which is the minister’s Lok Sabha constituency.

Paras talked to Vaishali SP Maneesh Kumar over the phone regarding the security arrangement for the victim’s family. “I also talked to the district administration and the SP for speedy action against the culprits. The culprits will be arrested in 2-4 days,” he said.
On June 22, Neelam jewellers’ owner Sunil Kumar Priyadarshi was shot dead by 4-5 masked criminals at his shop near Subhash Chowk in the district. The incident was captured in the CCTV camera installed in the shop.
Incidentally, after half an hour of Paras’s statement, unidentified criminals shot dead a cyber café operator in Chakvyas village under Goraul police station area in the same district. The deceased was identified as Vikas Kumar Singh (28), the son of Gopal Singh, who owned a cyber café on Vikhroli station road.
SP Maneesh said the incident took place between 10am and 11am when Vikas was sitting at his café. “The incident is a fallout of an old rivalry between the victim and the accused. On the statement of the family members, a complaint has been registered against a named accused and other unidentified persons. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused,” he told TOI.
The SDPO of Mahua and Goraul police reached the spot and sent the body to Sadar Hospital for postmortem. “Vikas sustained three bullet injuries in his head and chest. He died on the spot. Three empty cartridges have been recovered from the spot,” SHO Sanjeev Kumar said.
