PUNE: A 25-year-old assistant manager with a private bank lost two teeth on Sunday, after a pair of men riding on a motorcycle snatched her gold chain worth Rs50,000 and pushed her down from her moped around 10.15pm in front of Patil Estate slums.
Victim Jaya Jadhav fell face and suffered serious injuries to her face, particularly her mouth, left hand, legs as also internal injuries.
“Jadhav was on her way home to Phulenagarand heading towards Sangamwadi when the duo came up and the pillion rider snatched her gold chain,” said senior inspector Dattatraya Chavan of the Khadki police on Tuesday.
Chavan added, “Jadhav caught hold of the hand of pillion rider and refused to leave it. He hit her with his fists and pushed her away with his full strength. The woman fell on the right side of the road and got critically injured. Taking advantage of this, the robbers sped away to Sangamwadi.”
Sub-inspector Mohan Salvi, who is investigating the case, said, “In her statement to the police, Jadhav said the suspects were wearing helmets. We are conducting a technical investigation and checking for criminals on record.”
Jadhav told TOI, “An eyewitness called the police, who rushed to the spot. A couple travelling in a car stopped and offered me water. I alerted my friend, who reached the spot. We visited the police station immediately. I was referred to Sassoon hospital.”
