Covid-19: Maharashtra's weekly positivity rate at 12 per cent, Pune's 23 per cent

According to public health officials, the major share of cases continues to be in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts in the state.

PUNE: Pune district's weekly positivity rate touched 23%, the highest in the state as against Mumbai's and Thane's 16% each in the weekly Covid-19 positivity report tabled in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
Maharashtra's Covid-19 positivity rate increased from 11% last week to 12%.
According to public health officials, the major share of cases continues to be in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Raigad, and Palghar districts in the state.

While Mumbai and Palghar in the week ending on June 21-27, have shown a decline of 11% cases and 9% cases respectively, Pune district showed a 66% rise in new Covid-19 infections. Pune district in the week (June 14-20) registered around 2157 cases, and the week ending (June 21-27) registered 3583 cases.
The five districts have registered have a rise of 1.93%, while the average weekly rise in the state has been 5.03% as compared to the preceding week, states the data.
Experts have stated that in the next four to six weeks the rise has to be closely watched to understand the disease transmission.
However, the silver lining is that the hospitalisation rate continues to be stable in spite of the rise.
"The hospitalisation rate is 4.68% which has been stable in the last two weeks,'' said experts. Most of the cases being reported are either asymptomatic or do not need hospitalisation. Health experts have said that most symptoms that are being detected are of cough, throat pain and cold.

"With no new variant, the spike is limited only to certain pockets,'' added experts.
Currently, the state continues to see the tally increase of Ba 3, BA.4 patients. On Tuesday the tally of such patients reached 63. However, they were all cured in home isolation.
These include four from Palghar, three from Raigad, and two from Thane from samples collected from May 31 to June 11.
The daily cases in the state range between 3000-4000 while the active cases are about 25,481 cases.
