New Delhi: Amid the nationwide uproar over ghastly murder of a Hindu man in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has raised a red flag over the educational curriculum in madrassas, the religious schools for teaching Islam.

Speaking to the press over beheading of Kanhaiya Lal in broad daylight by Islamist radicals, the Kerala governor said that the children in madrasses were being taught that punishment for blasphemy is beheading.

He also called for examination for the course curriculum that is being taught in madrassas to find out the ‘reason behind extremism’.

“We worry when symptoms come but refuse to notice the deeper disease. Children are being taught in madrassas that punishment for blasphemy is beheading. It’s being taught as the law of God…What’s being taught there should be examined,” Arif Mohammad Khan opined today.

Khan’s unequivocal condemnation of Udaipur violence and addressing the ills plaguing the madrassas comes amidst soft reactions by many political parties as they dithered in calling out the radicals & fanatics.

In Udaipur, Kanhaiya Lal was murdered by 2 men for allegedly sharing a post on social media, in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The butchers recorded the entire episode on camera and shared it on social media after executing Kanhaiya at his shop. In another video of confession, they gloated over killing of Kanhaiya over insult to Prophet Muhammed.

Gouse Mohammed and Riyaz Akhtari, the two killers also went to threatened Prime Minister, saying that their knife will also reach him.

Meanwhile, Udaipur remains on the edge over brutal murder of Hindu man. Additional forces have been deployed in and around the city and internet suspended to stop spread of incendiary messages. Despite that, some places witnessed arson & sporadic incidents of violence at some places in the city.

Kanhaiya’s family has demanded punishment ‘no less than death penalty’ for the murderers, saying that this will set a precedent for such heinous crime.
