Maharashtra: General elections for 271 gram panchayats in 62 talukas to be held on August 4

The counting of votes will take place on August 5, 2022

Even when the petitions with regard to restoration of 27% political reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) is pending in the Supreme Court, the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) on Wednesday announced that the general elections for 271 gram panchayats in 62 talukas with low rainfall will be held on August 4, 2022 as per the Supreme Court order. Accordingly, the code of conduct has been put in place from today. The counting of votes will take place on August 5, 2022, aid the state election commissioner PS Madan.

Madan said that as per the order of the Supreme Court dated May 17, 2022, the general election program for the Gram Panchayats has been announced in 62 talukas which are likely to be disrupted less due to rains. Accordingly, the concerned tehsildar will publish the election notice on July 5, 2022 while nomination papers will be filed from July 12 to 19 except July 16 and 17 being the government holidays. The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on July 20, 2022. The deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers will be July 22, 2022 at 3 pm. Voting will take place on August 4, 2022 from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm and the vote count will take place on August 5.

Meanwhile, SEC has extended the deadline till July 3 for filing objections and suggestions on ward-wise draft voter lists published for general elections of 14 different Municipal Corporations.

The ward-wise draft voter lists for general elections have been published for BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan- Dombivali, Ulhasnagar, Vasai- Virar, Pune, Pimpri- Chinchwad, Solapur, Kolhapur, Nashik, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur Municipal corporations

Ward-wise draft voter lists are also available on the respective Municipal Corporations, their websites and the True Voter Mobile App. Objections and suggestions can also be lodged at the Municipal Corporation's office or at the places authorised by them and also through the True Voter mobile app. The True Voter mobile app can be downloaded on the mobile phone from the Play Store.
