Kevin Federline, the ex-husband of Britney Spears, has broken his decade-long silence in a bombshell interview that details the allegedly strained relationship between the star and her sons.

Britney and Kevin share two children - Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden, 15 - who he claims haven't seen her for months. The former backup dancer, 44, was married to the 40-year-old star from 2004 to 2006.

Although Kevin stayed out of the spotlight following the split, he has spoken out in a tell-all interview with the Daily Mail. He revealed the cracks in the boys' relationship to their mum, which included skipping her recent wedding to Sam Asghari.

According to Kevin, it has been both Sean Preston and Jayden's own choices not to see their mum, even though her new mansion is only a matter of minutes away from their Los Angeles home, the Mirror reported.

In the interview with the MailOnline, he said: "The boys have decided they are not seeing her right now. It's been a few months since they've seen her. They made the decision not to go to her wedding."

As well as having to face numerous parenting challenges amid Britney's globally recognised conservatorship battle, Kevin admitted it was the hardest thing he has ever gone through having to watch his sons see it all unfold in front of their very eyes.

Britney finally got her freedom back after her entire life was ruled and regulated by her father, Jamie Spears, after she was put under a conservatorship back in 2008 after her public breakdown.

Since being able to gain access to her life again, Britney has been making the most of her freedom by posting provocative and nude selfies all over Instagram, as well as calling out her family for 'abuse' and 'neglect' in recent weeks as she's finally able to use her voice again.

However, according to Kevin, their sons have been finding Britney's social media presence difficult to deal with.

The singer and former backing dancer has appeared in a bombshell TV interview in which he talks openly for the first time about the reality of life as the former 'Mr Spears' and his reasoning for keeping his sons completely out of the limelight amid their mums growing fame and notoriety in recent months.

"This whole thing has been hard to watch, harder to live through, harder to watch my boys go through than anything else, it's been tough", the singer shared.

In recent months, Britney has been making headlines for stripping completely naked in a number of raunchy and risqué Instagram posts, and her social media presence has left an impact on her teenage sons.

"I try to explain to them, 'Look, maybe that's just another way she tries to express herself'," he says. "But that doesn't take away from the fact of what it does to them. It's tough. I can't imagine how it feels to be a teenager having to go to high school."

Kevin reveals the nude selfies and her attacks on her family are some of the reasons the relationship between Britney and her sons have deteriorated.

He explained: "They tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but at the same time, I can tell that sometimes, it hurts to be in that position. So, I made sure all my kids can come to me at any moment and discuss anything. The boys - all my kids - know that they come to me and to my wife and discuss anything."

Britney's ex-husband added he has an open relationship with his boys talking about difficult topics like sex, drugs and "all the thing teenager go through", so if they make mistakes he can "protect them".

Despite his sons' decision to distance themselves from their mum in recent months, Kevin has insisted that both Sean Preston and Jayden still love Britney with all their hearts.

The Mirror has reached out to Britney's representatives for comment.
