On a beautiful day and in a beautiful way artists originating from across the globe came together at Civic Park Saturday for the inaugural Kirkland Lake Arts and Culture Fair.
The focal point of the day was “The Resilience Project” created and coordinated by Kirkland Lake’s Cesar Forero.
According to Fair organizers “The group of performing artists, singers, dancers and musicians has worldwide recognition and experience.” The performers in the group are from both Northern and Southern Ontario “as well as international artists who are multilingual, multi-ethnic, francophone, as well as members of the LGBTQ2s+” community.
The event was co-organized by the Kirkland Lake Contemporary Arts Committee, the Kirkland Lake Multicultural Group, the Kirkland Lake Lions Club, The Museum of Northern History and the Kirkland Lake Arts Club.
Speaking after the performance Forero stated he was very excited about how the Fair turned out. “We were able to do it. It has been a difficult these last three years to come up with this and the most difficult thing is always the start.”
He added now that they have done it once, he and the group would like to see it occur on a yearly basis and become even bigger and more extravagant.
“Next year I want to have a big tent here so people can be protected from sun or the rain”, Forero added. He went on to say “I am going to keep working. I love the town; I just need more help. We need the engagement of the whole town.”
Among the performers was Kirkland Laker Alex Boudreault who said he was proud to be on that stage.
“It was a pleasure to be a part of the Arts and Cutlure Fair here in Kirkland Lake. It was such a great event to be part of and see all this local talent here.
“(It was a) super amazing experience and it was such a pleasure to be working along side such amazing people. I am very happy with it.”
Besides the Resilience performance also featured vendors in the pavilion, inflatables, a dunk tank held by the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and local talent doing an open-mic performances
