There is perhaps no one in the world who loves cars more than Jay Leno. The comedian and former chat show host has a huge number of cars in his collection, and showcases them on his Jay Leno’s Garage YouTube channel. He also loves to check out the latest from various car manufacturers, and in this video he has managed to get a look at the 2023 Nissan Z, the latest sports car from Nissan.

A Sports Car For Daily Driving

Leno loves that this is a sports car that is attainable — both in terms of the price, and the fact that it is great for daily driving. Its 400 hp twin-turbo V6 engine provides plenty of power, and Leno admires the dedication from Nissan to build a car like the Z.

Leno has Jonathan Buhler from Nissan North America with him in the garage, to walk him through the Nissan Z. Buhler points out the influence past Z cars had on the design of the new Z, such as the rear end inspired by the 300ZX from the early to mid-1990s. The front end, of course, is heavily inspired by the 240Z, minus the front bumper.

We get a look under the hood of the Z with Leno and Buhler. While it's not as tidy as, say, a classic 1930s Cadillac, Nissan have tried to be as efficient as possible with the space within the Nissan Z engine bay. Leno loves that Nissan have the enthusiast in mind with the car, especially when it comes to the six-speed manual transmission and the clutch-type limited-slip differential, making the car very mechanical. It is a true sports car, with the safety features and mod-cons for the modern era.

Leno and Buhler go out in the Nissan Z to experience what it is like. Leno loves watching the tachometer throughout the journey, and he understands why it is so important that Nissan catered to the enthusiast with this car. Something that differs from the new Z to the old Z is how it doesn’t vibrate so much, and the lack of turbo lag is hugely impressive. Nissan has really nailed it with the 2023 Z. We can’t wait for it to come out, and neither can Leno.
