News Highlights August 18: The suspect behind attempting murder of writer Salman Rushdie, Hadi Matar has pleaded not guilty in court, reported news agency AFP on Thursday. The globally renowned writer known for his controversial book Satanic Verses was stabbed in the neck last Friday when he was about to appear for a talk as part of a lecture series. The suspect has pleaded not guilty while stating that he has no connection with the Iran Revolutionary Guard or the 1989 Fatwa that asked for the killing of the writer.
