The title track of Singh Is Kinng in Hard Kaur's voice who was a rage back then played in the background as Akshay Kumar walked (like he owned it) towards the stage. The audience cheered loudly and applauded him. He hugged Rekha on the stage who was presenting the award and then gave a speech that made more fans than ever before. Akshay won the Best Actor award in the Popular Choice category for Singh Is Kinng. The year was 2009.

As he held the mic in his hand, he said, "I am actually so touched... I really am. I wanted this little beauty my whole career since last 18 years. I strived for this moment and to achieve it is such a big honour. Never in my wildest dreams, I imagined that it would happen to me, Chandni Chowk ka ladka, but it has and it came from you all". He thanked his audience with all his heart.

"I am holding my dream in one hand and my father's love in the other," he said and added, "A few days back, I saw this movie Ghajini and I was bowled over."

"I saw my movie, Singh Is Kinng, after that when I was coming back from London to Mumbai. Obviously, I couldn't help but compare our work. That's when I knew without a doubt - the best actor this year by far according to me is Mr Aamir Khan for Ghajini. What that man did for his movie was pure dedication. It is, as they say, historic. That's what I feel. And I refuse to be the man that pretends to take this (he points at the trophy in his hand) away from him. I am not going to take it away from him, at all."

As Akshay Kumar says this, the audience is in utter shock. Farah Khan's facial expressions are clear - she is taken aback too. That is when Akshay adds:

"I know this moment is never going to come again in my life, but I cannot walk out of here holding something I know doesn't belong to me." From Priyanka Chopra to Hrithik Roshan, everyone looks perplexed at this. "I'm sure I haven't offended my people who have voted for me but I am still here striving for your love and support, and maybe one day, I will win it back again."

"It hurts me to say - I thank you from all my heart, but Aamir... this one is for you mate. You deserve it." As he walks off the stage, the Singh Is Kinng title track plays again and there are louder cheers and claps from the audience.

It's 2022 and Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar's paths have crossed again as their films Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan have released on the same date - Aug 11.
