It was another busy day for Team P.E.I. at the 2022 Canada Summer Games on Aug. 18 as Week 2 competition continued in the Niagara region of Ontario.
Following is a recap:
Cycling
In the female road race, Lily Nicholson finished 26th after completing the 69-kilometre course in 2:08:18.
In the 110.4-kilometre male road race, Calum Lea finished 27th, Ryan MacDonald was 31st and Matt Jelley came 34th.
Canoe/Kayak
It was another great day for Team P.E.I.’s brother-sister team of Eric and Bianca Batten in kayaking.
Bianca set a new personal-best time and provincial record of 51.037 in the K1 (individual) 200-metre race. Hannah Hameline set the previous provincial mark in the 2008 nationals.
In the male K1 200 metres, Eric set a new personal-best time of 46.484.
In the K2 mixed event – a new race – Eric and Bianca set a provincial record of 2:09.363.
Rowing
In rowing, P.E.I.’s Joe Moak and Zach Harris achieved a personal best of 7:26.16 in lightweight double sculls.
Sailing
In sailing, Team P.E.I.’s Samantha Brown had an eighth-place finish in the single-handed laser radial.
John Roberts also had an eighth-place showing in single-handed laser.
Soccer
The P.E.I. female soccer team played strong defensively in a 3-0 loss to the host Ontario team.
Volleyball
In male volleyball action, team P.E.I. dropped a 3-0 decision to Newfoundland and Labrador.
Box lacrosse
The P.E.I. male box lacrosse team lost a close 6-4 decision versus an evenly-matched New Brunswick team.
New Brunswick outshot P.E.I. 34-30.
Riley Bissett, Nathanael Rodgerson, Zack O’Meara and Nolan Hughes scored for P.E.I.
Luke Mutch tended goal for P.E.I.
Golf
Team P.E.I.’s golfers were back on the course and posted the following scores: Lexie MacDonald, 77; Brayah MacDonald, 89; Caleb Drake, 78; Landon MacCallum, 78.
