Man dies after horror crash on major Scots road as cops launch probe

A MAN has died after a car crashed when it veered off a major Scots road.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the A83 near Ardgartan at around 6.05pm yesterday evening.

Officers also scrambled to the area after receiving reports of the crash on the Old Military Road.

Police confirmed that a red Jaguar XK8 Coupe was travelling eastbound when it left the road.

The 70-year-old male driver was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Collision investigation teams closed the road for eight hours as they conducted their enquiries.

It was reopened at around 1.55am this morning.

Police have now launched a probe into the incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances behind the crash.

They have urged anyone who may have been on the road at the time and saw what happened to speak with officers.

They are particularly keen to speak with someone who was spotted driving a blue coloured car, possibly a Fiat, in the area.

Cops believe they could have possibly witnessed the crash.

Sergeant Archie McGuire of Argyll and West Dunbartonshire Road Policing Unit said: “At this time, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased, following their tragic loss.

“I am appealing for anyone with any information which may assist us to get in touch.

“I am particularly keen to speak to the occupants of a blue coloured car, possibly a Fiat, which was travelling from Arrochar and may have witnessed the car prior to the crash.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 2815 of 24 September, 2022."
