“The most important thing, though, is that I get to have a life with my kids,” he said. “That’s more important than golf. I’ve come to realize that now.”

Tiger and ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, married each other in 2004. Nordegren is a former Swedish model and was a regular partner to Woods in his travels to competitions. The couple was graced with two children: daughter Sam, and son Charlie.

Post divorce, Woods reveals he wants to spend more time with kids

The saga in 2009-10 that engulfed the world, shattered Woods’ image as a role model among the younger generations. The 15-time Major Championship winner also lost almost $35 million in sponsorship revenue after the scandal came to light.

Though Woods confronted his demons by speaking out the truth in public, his marriage had been irreparably broken. The two filed for a divorce and announced the decision in August 2010 in a joint statement. “We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future,” it said.

Furthermore, the judgment provided shared custody for the two young kids, then aged 3 and 1. “While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us,” the statement further read.

In his interview, Woods highlighted the importance of his children in his life. “It’s more important for me to be with my kids,” he said. “I don’t know how I could live with myself not being able to participate in my kids’ lives like that.”

The golf legend is recovering from an injury sustained during a car crash in February 2021. However, he stuck to his promise, caddying for son, Charlie Woods at the Notah Begay III Junior National Golf Championship. He watched in awe as the 13-year-old posted a round of 68 at the tournament, his best ever. Looks like Woods has indeed spent his time wisely with his kids.
