Tips and race-by-race preview for Narrandera on Sunday

By Ray Hickson

Race 1 – 1:30PM LEETON TOYOTA COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

3. Starspangled Texan has been a late starter but both runs at Wagga have had merit. Showed improvement closing off strongly in his second and shapes as though the trip will suit. Clearly the one to beat.
Dangers: 5. Little Mist contested the same race and made some late ground when sixth, beaten four lengths. Draws one this time and expect to see her run the best race of her career so far. 6. Peniche produced her best effort to date when leading over this course and holding on for third. Likely lands on speed and can give a sight. 9. Sunny Sewell was unfancied on debut but didn’t do a bad job coming from last over 1200m here on September 14. Smaller field and extra trip suits so keep safe.

How to play it: Starspangled Texan win; trifecta 3/5,6,9/5,6,9.

Odds & evens: Odds.

Race 2 – 2:05PM SUNSHINE DRYCLEANERS NARRANDERA C1 & MAIDEN (1600 METRES)

6. Snappy Jim couldn’t have been more impressive at his first run for the new stable when leading all the way to a seven-length win at Wagga. Not much harder here, fitter and if he turns up in the same mood will take beating.

Dangers: 4. I Am Richenuff was well-supported when breaking through for a narrow on pace win here a few weeks back. Small query at the trip but lightly raced and is a definite chance. 5. My Rock Singa finally broke through for a dominant five-length win at Nowra on a heavy track two weeks ago. Probably more depth here but hard to deny latest performance. Go well. 9. Majestic Lilly had some specking at odds at Canberra last week and ran up to it finishing on into second over 1400m. Probably gets back again from a wide gate but an each-way hope.

How to play it: Snappy Jim win; trifecta 6/4,5,9/4,5,9.

Odds & Evens: Evens.

Race 3 – 2:40PM NARRANDERA BAKERY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. More Importance has a wide gate to negotiate but he looks not far off a win after a fighting third here second-up. Was a big drifter that day so has to be fitter and with any luck in running is a good chance.

Dangers: 5. Smokin’ Cod hasn’t raced since a handy second on a heavy track at Wagga in June. Did run well on debut at this trip so even though she’s drawn out she should be charging home. 12. Turnaquid is a big betting watch first-up without a public trial. Not disgraced at only start at Wodonga back in July and wouldn’t surprise if she showed a lot more here. 3. Chilean Express has been around the mark of late with third in three of his last four starts. Another drawn out but tends to go forward so might offset it quickly. Has a show.

How to play it: More Importance win.

Odds & Evens: Split.

Race 4 – 3:15PM ELDERS NARRANDERA AND COLEAMBALLY CLASS 1 (1200 METRES)

4. Lady Tabloid started favourite when resuming at Canberra and tried hard for a close second on a heavy track. Much fitter and drawn a little better, she should be somewhere in the finish.

Dangers: 6. Shooting For Stars ran right up to market expectation with a dominant maiden win when resuming at this track last week. Backs up and no reason why she couldn’t repeat. 7. Tinge Of Ginge was a drifter in betting on debut at Wagga two weeks ago but was able to lead all the way for a handy maiden win. Same weight here and could measure up as well. 2. Rockin’ Shamus was a $41 chance when scoring his maiden win at this track back in July. Trialled in a strong heat behind Another One two weeks ago and is one to keep an eye on.

How to play it: Lady Tabloid win; trifecta 4/2,6,7/2,6,7.

Odds & Evens: Evens.

Race 5 – 3:55PM AUSWILD AND BROAD ACCOUNTANTS BM66 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

2. My Bold Boy atoned for a defeat as favourite two starts back with a dashing all-the-way win over this course last week. Racing very well, down 2kg and should take some catching again.

Dangers: 1. Galaxy Force won well at Albury three starts back and while he had his chance at Wagga last time this is a decent drop in class. Wth the claim, he gets in nicely at the weights. Can run well. 3. Honeysuckle Choice doesn’t win out of turn but she is regularly around the mark. Stuck on well on the speed when third at Canberra last week, draws well and has each-way hopes. 4. Lace And Whiskey disappointed behind My Bold Boy here last start but does have a weight turnaround so might be worth another chance.

How to play it: My Bold Boy win; trifecta 2/1,3,4/1,3,4;

Odds & Evens: Split.

Race 6 – 4:35PM BENDIGO BANK NARRANDERA BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

7. Argyll Gardens was excellent when resuming at Wagga, hitting the line from well back into third on a heavy track. Fitter for it, extra trip and inside gate suit. Should be very competitive on that effort.
Dangers: 4. Decker led all the way for a comfortable win in this class a few weeks back. Up 2kg for the win and while drawn wide will go forward and could take catching. 9. Cut To Pieces can mix form and while he’s yet to place first-up both wins are at this trip and fitter for a recent trial. Keep an eye on betting. 2. Smiler Marshall was a popular winner at Wagga two runs back then not disgraced running fourth in a BM70 at Canterbury. Down in class and one of the chances.

How to play it: Argyll Gardens each way.

Odds & Evens: Split.

Race 7 – 5:15PM LEONE VRIELING MEMORIAL CUP (1600 METRES)

1. Prince Of Helena comes off a midfield finish at Sandown last week. The claim helps him and could be too classy.
Dangers: 3. Intuition has found form again lately with a Kembla win and a placing there a couple of weeks ago. Will be running on strongly and is a big chance. 6. Scarlet Prince was a drifter in betting but was able to stave them off to score at Canberra last week. Handy Highway effort before that and should be competitive again. 5. Nieces And Nephews led and fought hard in the same race to be just denied in second place. Will go forward again and has to be included in the chances.

How to play it: Prince Of Helena win.

Odds & Evens: Odds.

Race 8 – 5:55PM WATKINS FUNERALS NARRANDERA AND LEETON BM58 (1400 METRES)

2. Deshawn is racing consistently and while drawn out he’s aided by a claim. This does look easier than his last start solid fifth at Bathurst. Winner there three runs back and placed in six of eight runs at the trip.

Dangers: 1. Leather Jacket Lew is fitter for one run back at Goulburn where he led and knocked up to run fourth. Might want a shade further but expect he will improve and is capable of showing up. 8. Gambacorta was a bit below par last time at Nowra where he failed to beat one home after leading. Form prior was okay and with blinkers on is entitled to another chance. 11. Honour The Legend was unfancied second-up but attacked the line well into second here at 1200m. Extra trip a plus and he’s an each-way chance.

How to play it: Deshawn win.

Odds & Evens: Split.
