Amazon Prime Early Access Sale: the latest news, deals, and coverage

The Amazon Prime Early Access Sale is here! The two-day event is featuring a wide range of excellent deals. The Amazon Prime Early Access Sale stretches from October 11th through October 12th. As expected, there are some excellent discounts on a wide range of Amazon devices, including Kindle and Echo devices. However, this fall episode of Prime Day wouldn’t be complete without deals on a broad spectrum of cool tech, like laptops, OLED TVs, headphones, and gaming accessories.

Apple’s latest MacBook Air sports a 15-inch display and is equipped with Apple’s M2 chip. It features a larger display and better speaker array than the 13-inch MacBook Air from 2022. Read our review.

Other retailers like Best Buy and Target are getting in on the action, too, hosting their own promotional events that we’ll be sure to point out. Anything we publish over the next couple of days that’s Prime Day-adjacent will show up here, so make sure to check back regularly for updates. We’ll also be tweeting from our @VergeDeals Twitter account, so be sure to follow us there or subscribe to our newsletter for the latest deals.

The best deals you can still get from Walmart’s competing Prime Day event

Amazon wasn’t the only one offering a deluge of deals earlier this week. If you were looking for alternative places to shop during Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale — perhaps one that didn’t require you to sign up for a premium membership — Walmart was featuring many of the same deals, dropping notable discounts on standouts like the Apple Watch Series 8 and Beats Fit Pro. While many of the sales have ended, Walmart is still offering discounts on a handful of items, none of which require a Walmart Plus membership to take advantage of.

Below, we’ve rounded up a selection of the best deals you can still get from Walmart’s “Rollbacks and More” sale. Admittedly, the options are limited, but perhaps a new pair of earbuds or a smartwatch is enough to hold you over until Black Friday and Cyber Monday come around.

The best anti-Prime Day deals you can still get at Target

As expected, Target’s recent “Deal Days” event has officially come to a close. The two-day shopping event — which served as a counter to Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale — brought with it discounts on a variety of tech products, including gaming accessories, headphones, 4K TVs, and a range of other items that were on sale by as much as 50 percent off. However, just because the sale is over doesn’t mean there aren’t still deals to be had. In fact, a number of popular items are still clinging to their Prime Day prices following the event.

To help you make sense of what’s still on offer, we’ve sorted through the remains of Target’s recent sales event to compile a list of the best tech deals you can still buy. The current batch of discounts extends to premium picks like LG’s brilliant C2 OLED and Google’s Pixel 6A, as well as budget-friendly options like Apple’s second-gen AirPods. Also, keep in mind that Target will price-match items within 14 days of purchase until December 24th, if you happen to find the same item elsewhere for a cheaper price.

Amazon’s first Prime Early Access Sale is officially behind us, however, the two-day sales event wasn’t the only place where you could find marked-down tech products. Best Buy was also running a “Flash Sale” of its own, which saw the big-box retailer price-matching deals from Amazon’s Prime member-exclusive event throughout the duration of the 48-hour window.

The promotion was intended to last through yesterday, October 12th, however, it appears a number of the anti-Prime Day discounts we saw over the last couple of days are still available online and at the retailer’s brick-and-mortar locations. Here, we’ve rounded up the best deals you can still get from Best Buy’s “Flash Sale” event, just in case you missed the shopping fanfare earlier this week.

The Verge Guide to Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale

    Nicholas Barclay / The Verge

Amazon Prime Day is no longer a once-per-year shopping event. This year, the company is hosting a second deal extravaganza for Prime members called the Prime Early Access Sale, which kicked off yesterday, October 11th, and runs through today, October 12th. Like the two-day shopping blitz that is Prime Day, it’s filled with some of the lowest prices we’ve seen on 4K TVs, Amazon Echo devices, noise-canceling headphones, gaming accessories, laptops, and more. We also expect to see competing deals at retailers like Target, Best Buy, and Walmart, all of which we’ll cover during the 48-hour window.

If you missed out on all the great Kindle Paperwhite deals we saw in July during the first Prime Day, you still have a chance to save. We’re quickly approaching the end of Amazon’s first Prime Early Access Sale, however, the retailer is still selling the latest ad-supported Kindle Paperwhite with 8GB of storage for $99.99 instead of $139.99 — the same goes for Target and Best Buy. If you prefer to read without distracting ads getting in the way, you can also buy the ad-free version at Amazon for $119.99 ($40 off).

The latest Kindle Paperwhite is a terrific e-reader, one with a battery that can literally last months, so you will not need to worry about recharging it. It also offers IPX8 waterproofing so you can enjoy reading by the pool, and it comes with USB-C support for faster charging. Plus, its 6.8-inch display is larger than its predecessor’s, so you’ll be able to read books more easily, especially at night, given it supports adjustable color temperatures. Amazon’s ongoing Prime Early Access Sale is a great opportunity to take advantage of steep discounts on a range of popular gadgets. These include items like Amazon’s Fire TV Omni and Apple’s new AirPods Pro, the latter of which launched less than two weeks ago. That said, many of us wouldn’t consider a $223.24 pair of earbuds to be affordable, even if they are discounted. Thankfully, there are plenty of products currently on sale on Amazon for less than $50, ranging from smart speakers and location trackers to gaming mice.

Here, we’ve compiled a list of the top tech deals you can buy for less than $50 so you can truly save money in the run-up to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you missed out on the steep discounts we saw on Amazon devices during Prime Day, it appears you have another chance. That’s because many of the same deals we saw in July are currently resurfacing in the run-up to Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale (aka, Prime Day 2.0).

What’s more, Amazon’s current discounts are some of the steepest we’ve seen this year, which isn’t all that surprising given Amazon recently announced a slate of new devices during its fall hardware event. That makes now a good time to snag an older Echo Show model, the last-gen Echo Dot, or even Amazon’s latest Kindle Paperwhite.

Photo by Chris Welch / The Verge

We’ll be approaching the closing hours of Amazon’s Prime Day before you know it, but we wanted to highlight one standout deal. The Bose QuietComfort 45 are some of the best noise-canceling wireless headphones you can buy, and they’ve been comfortably sitting at an all-time low price of $229 ($100 off) at Amazon for the duration of the Prime Early Access Sale. One of the best parts of this deal is that anyone (not just Prime members) can buy these. They’re also $229 at Best Buy or $229.99 at Target. In fact, you even get more color options there — blue or gray — over Amazon’s offering of just black or white.

What makes the QC45s particularly great at this price is their balance of sound quality and comfort combined with excellent noise cancellation — their name is actually spot-on. They also include a transparency mode to help keep you aware of your surroundings, if you’re the type to commute or walk around with headphones on.

  • This 100W USB-C cable with a built-in power meter is just $9.79 for Prime Day

A USB-C to USB-C cable with a LED power meter built into one of its ends, about to be plugged into a phone.
More accessories could use names that make us think of soup or cartoon beagles.
    Image: SooPii

Amazon Prime Early Access deals come in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes they come from brands with silly names that make us chuckle like children. Case in point: the SooPii 100W four-foot USB-C cable, which is on sale for just $9.79 at Amazon. This deal is exclusive to Prime members, but it knocks $4.20 (nice) off this handy, black cable. There’s also a red version for the same $9.79, which represents a steeper discount of $9.20 — because the color red looks cool, and cool colors cost more, I guess. If a four-foot-long cable is too short for you, there’s also a 6.6-foot version in black or red for $12.79 ($3.20 off).

But hang on, Sloopy, there’s a bit more you should know about this cable. While it’s super convenient for charging, its USB 2.0 data transfer speeds are nothing to write home about. This cable is more about monitoring power, and for this price, I don’t mind that limitation. In fact, the red one will make a fine addition to my collection.
